The 2026 Absa RUN YOUR CITY TSHWANE 10K, held on Sunday, 23 August 2026, began at the iconic Union Buildings in Tshwane, attracting approximately 10,000 runners. This event merged competitive road running with a vibrant atmosphere of entertainment, brand interactions, and community involvement. The race’s path incorporated significant city landmarks while offering multiple entertainment stations, making the city an integral part of the participants’ experience.
Key Features of the event included, a strong sense of place: The race route showcased Tshwane’s landmarks, emphasizing the city’s role in the experience. The organizers highlighted the blend of iconic sites with entertainment points throughout the race. This event aimed to create a mass-participation entertainment experience, integrating local performers and cheer squads along the route. Notable activations included Love for Local, CANSA cheerleaders, and Luminous Legends, which enhanced the overall event vibe.
Despite the tough terrain characterized by elevation and warm conditions, the course was designed for speed. Winner Salem Kibet from Kenya described it as difficult yet fast, revealing the dual nature of the race’s challenge. With diverse participation, the event attracted both elite athletes and recreational runners, enriching its appeal. Salem Kibet clinched the men’s title in 28:45, while Doreen Cherop from Kenya as well set a new women’s course record at 31:35.
