Ground 2 Glory by Loatinover Pounds

Loatinover Pounds, whose real name is Loatile Mangadi, hails from Ga-Rankuwa and Mabopane, north of Pretoria, Gauteng. He is a multifaceted artist known as a rapper, record producer, and graphic designer, operating under the creative identity of Punyete. He released his sophomore 12-track album, titled “G2G” (Ground 2 Glory), on 25 September 2026; this marks a significant transition in his career, emphasizing a shift from aspiring for success to managing the realities that come with achievements.

The album opens with “My Life,” a reflective track that establishes its emotional core. Here, Pounds contemplates his journey, acknowledging both his achievements and setbacks, while drawing on a nostalgic reference from Roy Ayers Ubiquity’s “Everybody Loves the Sunshine”; in the chorus of the song, he replaces “in the sunshine” with “koPitori” to celebrate his roots in Pretoria and the city he prayed for on his debut album “Pray for Pitori”. This introspection sets the stage for the album’s exploration of personal growth intertwined with an understanding that some journeys must be solo.

The second track, “Mabane,” similarly encourages reflections on identity and origin, reinforcing how the artist’s background continues to influence his perspective amidst shifting circumstances.

“Hood Gospels,” featuring A-Reece, delves into themes of fatherhood and loss, emphasizing the interconnectedness of familial responsibilities and success. It reflects the spiritual dimensions of surviving in challenging environments, signaling a turning point where personal achievements extend beyond individual gains to encompass familial duties.

“Punyete Party,” featuring Mo Sufi, contrasts this introspection by capturing the joy of social interactions and celebration. The upbeat nature of this track allows Pounds to embrace both success and the relationships that enrich his life.

“2014 Joh” evokes nostalgia through its atmospheric production, inviting listeners to reflect on their personal evolution. The specific significance of the year 2014 creates a nostalgic pause within the album’s narrative.

“Henny & Backwoods” blends celebratory and contemplative themes, showcasing a lifestyle that observes the outer trappings of success while recognizing the deeper, often unseen, struggles of personal identity. On the song, he leans on the faith that everything will be okay.

“Laboraro Love” emphasizes romantic intimacy within the context of personal growth, suggesting that emotional connections persist alongside aspirations.

The collaboration “Boshigo,” featuring Mochen, brings attention to substance abuse issues while reinforcing the communal aspect of Pounds’ artistry, indicating that his personal journey is part of a broader collective narrative within the local music scene.

“5 Roses” provides a nuanced interpretation of affection, prompting thoughts on various emotional expressions connected to personal experiences, culminating in an appearance by Focalistic to highlight regional cultural connections. The Focalistic collaboration brings a recognisable South African cultural reference into the project. The Soweto Derby represents football rivalry, identity, shared excitement, and collective energy.

“Fetlhela,” featuring THE NORTHMOB, showcases local soundscapes, blending contemporary trap influences with Pretoria’s distinctive aesthetic, exemplifying how production can express geographical identity.

The album concludes with “Ground 2 Glory,” a reflection on gratitude and forward momentum. Pounds reflects on realizing his dreams and acknowledges the ongoing journey of ambition, underscoring the notion that success brings with it new challenges and responsibilities. Through “G2G,” Pounds navigates the complex transition from aspiration to achievement, maintaining a deep connection to his roots while exploring new horizons.
